Method Comparison

Bolt Torquing vs Bolt Tensioning

Choosing the correct bolting method depends on flange rating, stud diameter, access constraints, and client specification. ZARQGroup engineers advise on method selection as part of the pre-job planning process.

Bolt Torquing
  • Applies torque via reaction arm
  • 1/2 inch to 4 inch drive range
  • Suitable for most flanged joints
  • Faster setup on standard flanges
  • Lower equipment cost
  • Torque value documented per joint
Bolt Tensioning
  • Applies direct axial load to stud
  • M24 to M160 stud range
  • Preferred for large-bore, high-pressure flanges
  • Simultaneous multi-stud tensioning available
  • Eliminates torque-to-tension uncertainty
  • Elongation recorded per stud

Equipment

In-House Calibrated Equipment

ZARQGroup owns its torquing and tensioning fleet. All tools carry current calibration certificates traceable to a national standard, available for client audit on request.

Our equipment inventory includes hydraulic torque wrenches from 1/2 inch to 4 inch drive (low-profile and standard cassette heads), hydraulic stud tensioners for stud diameters M24 to M160, dedicated pump units with remote-control operation for confined-space and elevated work, and pneumatic impact tools for standard applications.

We do not rely on hired equipment from third parties for critical bolting campaigns. All tools are maintained, inspected, and re-calibrated at scheduled intervals per our QC procedures.
